How to create trust between you and your donors

"Give potential donors something to trust. Share with them examples of your previous successes and how donations have helped towards the charity’s mission"

It’s been a tough few years for charities.

The restrictions of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 understandably saw income from fundraising activities and community donations plummet.

And these financial struggles have continued for many charities in the post pandemic world with 28% of charities surveyed still reporting a deteriorating financial position in December 2021.

However, there was a glimmer of hope, in the form of growth in online donations.

Online giving doubled during the pandemic, with the Online Donation Report by WPNC showing that online donations grew 115% in volume and by 97% in income.

It is for this reason, that the charity website has become so integral to the fundraising and donation experience.

But how can charities build trust with their donors via the website to encourage donations to the fantastic causes they support?

Our takeaways

We spoke last year, in a previous blog post about how covid and the consequential digital revolution transformed the way charities and non-for-profits received donations.

And once again, we echo that sentiment, a seamless donation experience on your charity website should be an essential part of your charity’s digital strategy.

But what will provide the catalyst for potential donors to donate, is the trust that you build with them via your charity website.

And whilst the 7 points listed above are a fundamental way to build that trust, they require careful planning to implement them efficiently.

Once implemented, be sure to maintain and update the site and its content regularly.

Keep content current and dynamic to engage and excite potential donors and to highlight the fantastic efforts to support some of the most worthy causes.
